About

I have found that there aren't many people who still cook traditional Mauritian food, instead they rely on pre-made spice boxes to help speed up cooking time. Although I have nothing against this I think that everyone should know how to make meals from scratch. The only person in my family that cooks from scratch is my Nan, my mother prefers to buy Mayil, Shaan and ??? instead of mixing the spices herself.

As a mother I want my children to learn how to know what ingredients make a meal and not rely on pre-made mixes. I find it sad that young Mauritians nowadays cannot even make a simple dish such as La Daube Poule, Briyani or even Halim, they aren't that hard to make yourself.

Save yourself money by buying all your ingredients and make your own meals, Mauritian food is so tasty and delicious and not as spicy as Indian food, in fact since becoming a mother I have reduced the amount of spices that I put in my meals.
